Krabi, Aug 25: Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the ultra-luxurious sanctuary on Krabi’s shores, continues to craft immersive journeys that connect travelers to the spirit of Southern Thailand. With the launch of the “Heritage Flavors of Krabi” experience, Phulay Bay invites guests to embark on a four-hour culinary adventure that celebrates the living legacy of Thai cuisine, guided by local experts and artisans.
The journey begins in the afternoon at a bustling local market, where stalls overflow with fresh seafood, aromatic herbs, and traditional Thai desserts. Guests explore seasonal ingredients and witness the everyday Krabi life, through Thai cooking.
The experience unfolds with a hands-on lesson in the art of making traditional chili paste at the Curry Paste House, where guests are introduced to a vibrant palette of Southern Thai flavors with fiery chilies, earthy peppercorns, and sea salt harvested along the Andaman coast. Guided by local experts, they grind these ingredients by hand in a granite mortar and pestle, chosen deliberately over modern blenders. Each participant prepares their own paste to take home, serving as a meaningful souvenir.
The final chapter unfolds by the sea, where guests prepare Hor Mok, a cherished Southern Thai steamed fish curry wrapped in banana leaves. Set against the tranquil Andaman shoreline, this cooking ritual is a complete expedition from market ingredients to handmade curry paste to a finished dish. Guests may savor their creation by the water or take it home, carrying with them not only a dish, but a deeper connection to Krabi’s culinary soul.
Guided by a local chef, each guest learns the traditional folding technique of banana leaves, creating neat parcels filled with fish and coconut milk blended with their own paste. Steamed by the shoreline, the dish becomes a sensory finale that is fragrant, flavorful, and deeply tied to Krabi’s coastal heritage.
Unique to Phulay Bay, this experiential highlights the resilience of traditions and transforms cooking into cultural storytelling. Guests don’t just taste Krabi, they become part of its living heritage.
